How to slay mixed prints like some our favourite fashionistas
Mixing prints without looking like a hot mess can seem a bit tricky with the clashing, riotous prints but don’t be daunted by the idea of playing with colours, you would be shocked how difficult it is to get it wrong. Here's how to slay mixed prints like some our favourite fashionistas.
Fashion is meant to be fun, so learn to be confident enough to throw all rules out the window if that’s what you want.
Whether you want to mix and match prints, wear clashing colours and generally think outside the box when it comes to outfit pairings, here are a few style tips on how to nail the look.
Style Tips
When compared to wearing more muted, neutral pieces, wearing prints will always make you stand out, even more so when you’re mixing different prints together.
You will need to be confident and embrace the look which will be weird and out of your comfort zone but worth the risk if you pull it off. Dare to combine everything together in one outfit, such as stripes, herringbone patterns, leopard print and even coloured tights.
One way to make a multi-print look appear more cohesive is to have a single colour family tie the whole outfit together. For example, the different pieces in the look above complement each other nicely as most of the items are just in variations of pink and purple.
Another trick to combining prints is to think in terms of geometric shapes. For example, stripes will tend to go well with stripes. In the look above, the jacket and skirt look great together as they both have circular patterns, just in different sizes.
To avoid going overboard with the print mixing, it’s easier to start out with just two different prints in a look, such as leopard and plaid and keep the rest of the outfit simple and neutral with basics like a plain t-shirt or skirt.
