MUA Beautiverse shows us how to nail the natural look for Day 1 of Lagos Fashion Week 2018

Here at Pulse Lifestyle, we believe in the power of collaboration and working with talented people in the creative space. This is why we have teamed up with the amazing Olamide Okon aka Beautiverse for our LFW beauty looks. Here, she shows us how to nail the natural look for Day 1 of Lagos Fashion Week.

Olamide Okon is living testament of what it looks like following your dreams. Having wanted to pursue her passion for beauty for a long time, Olamide decided to throw caution to the wind and learn from one of her greatest inspirations, make-up artist Mali Thomas. Olamide flew to New York for an intense one on one experience and what started as a mentor/mentee relationship blossomed into a friendship.

Olamide, now a seasoned and talented MUA in her own right, is on a mission to challenge everything we thought we knew about beauty. The Beautiverse Company, Olamide's beauty empire, is dedicated to empowering women through their makeup. Too often, we use makeup to mask but Olamide is a firm believer that great makeup should serve only to enhance one's natural beauty.

Pulse Lifestyle Editor, Ntianu Obiora, sat in the Beautiverse chair and got the signature look for Day 1 of Lagos Fashion Week. An irridescent and radiant look, the Beautiverse signature beat will have you looking and feeling like the best version of you!

Want to create this at home?

Luckily, Olamide has put together a comprehensive tutorial that will get you well on the way to mastering the art of beautiful and natural makeup.

Take a look and keep your eyes peeled for more from Pulse Lifestyle and Beautiverse!

Hey Queens!

I’m here to give you the low down on the key products and steps I used to give Pulse Nigeria Lifestyle Editor Ntianu, the perfect clean signature Beautiverse Beat.

The signature Beautiverse Beat is a bronzed, glowy, and very modern look. I always focus on enhancing the amazing features each client already has, while minimising imperfections or areas of concern in a way that is soft and elegant and translates incredibly beautifully in person.

You can create this same soft and timeless look for yourself with these few tips and tricks.

Step 1: A smooth Canvas- Girl! I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to exfoliate your skin.  Exfoliating rids your skin of dead skin cells, literally sitting on top of your face and blocking your slay!

My faves: Beautiverse Miracle Exfoliator (shameless plug)

Step 2: Your face is thirsty- You have to hydrate your skin beloved. Using a hydrating toner to replenish your skin and then a nourishing moisturiser to hydrate and protect your skin is the perfect base. And don't let them tell them oily girls don’t need moisture. Lies and Propaganda!

The truth is, if you don’t moisturise your face, you body will actually over-produce oil to compensate. Hydrating your face before makeup application is essential for the integrity of your skin and a flawless application. Don’t skip it Boo!

My faves: Caudalie Moisturising Toner & Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream.

Step 3: Oh Glow up Girl!- No Beautiverse Beat would be complete without that glow baby! I like to illuminate the skin under foundation first, only on the high-points of the face.

This really gives a delicate radiance to the skin and gives you the “glowing from within” effect.

My faves: Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer

Step 4: Less is more -When applying your foundation it’s always better to start off light, and build up. I like to go in with a flat foundation brush first and then follow up  with a damp beauty blender to really melt the product into the skin. If more coverage is needed in certain areas, apply the foundation only to those areas, blend and access.

My faves: Nars Natural Radiant Longwear/Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Step 5: Enhancing your Features: The purpose of highlighting and contouring is to bring out your natural features and bring back some dimension that the foundation may have covered.  The key tip to this step is following the natural grooves and hollows of your face Queen. You are not building a house, do not try and reconstruct your face.

Secondly you have to blend, like blend for your life! Blending diffuses the products, causing a fusion between them that makes for a very organic and fluid look.  You don’t want harsh lines, you don’t want a dark strip just going across your cheek bone, you want a soft gradient, and placement and blending will get you there.

My faves: Nars All Day Radiant Concealer/Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Palette

Step 6: Brows Not Bricks- Brows are supposed to frame your face. So they should follow your natural brow shape and be soft, not heavy.

Brush brows upwards and determine your shape.  Then use a narrow brow pencil with gentle pressure and hair like strokes to fill in gaps in your brows and create beautiful fluffy and natural look!

My faves: MAC brow pencils/Benefit Cosmetics Precisely My Brow

Step 6: Set it or get set up: Setting your makeup with a loose or pressed powder ensures that it will not pack it’s bags and walk out on you. Using different types and textures of powders in specific areas will give you a polished effortless look.

Using a finely milled powder translucent powder that has a little colour under your eyes will fill in fine lines and really brighten your under eye area.  Applying a warm contour powder with a bit of reflex on the hairline, temples and the hallows of your cheeks, will bronze you up and give you a healthy sun-kissed vibe.

Using a glowy NOT glitter highlight powder will simply seal your look with a glow that is natural and radiant. Remember start light and build up only if necessary! Don’t forget to seal everything in with a setting spray! Double Assurance!

My faves: Chanel Universal Powder/YSL Souffle Powder/Covergirl Queen Collection Bronzer/Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting Spray/Mario Badescu Rose Water Facial Spray

Step 7: Lips Don’t Lie: You can use your favourite lipstick and top with a bomb lip gloss to get those lips poppin!

For Ntianu’s look I lined her lips with a brown lip liner first, then I applied a matte pinky nude liquid lipstick using a lipstick brush for precision, and topped it with a lip gloss that has sparkly reflex! Perfect Nude lip!

My faves: Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks/ MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick/Philosophy Lip Gloss

There you have it Boo. All the tea you need to create your own version of the Beautiverse Beat.

Don’t forget the most important step is self love and self confidence! Love on you Black Queen! You matter and you are enough!
