South African media personality Bonang Matheba has added another jewel to her crown by becoming the first South African woman ever to grace the cover ofGQ magazine stand-alone. The South African beauty stands solo on the cover of GQ power issue.
The September issue of GQ will feature the artists, personalities and iconic figures of South African popular culture who are at the top of their game and celebrating all the success that comes with it. It was only right that Bonang, a woman of many talents and who is a beacon of light in the South African entertainment industry took pride of place on the cover.
Matheba covers GQ's September "The Power Issue". According to the magazine this will be the first solo female cover from GQ SA in more than 8 years.
Sharing on their official social media pages on Thursday, GQ South Africa revealed that Matheba is the cover girl for their #ThePowerIssue this September. They wrote, “Presenting @bonang_m for #ThePowerIssue this September. The first ever South African woman to front the stand-alone cover of #GQSouthAfrica, @bonang_m discusses the role of power in the year of the woman, divulges her hopes for the future and reveals what you’ll never hear her talk about. #GQxBonang,”
GQ captioned a photo of the cover." Taking to Twitter, Matheba shared the cover with her followers, with a caption: "what a moment!!!! What a life!! What an awesome God I serve"
About why they chose Bonang for the cover, GQ writes:
It’s easy to see why Matheba was chosen. She has been in the industry for over a decade, not only has she been consistent, she also has grown as a brand to the powerhouse she is now known as.
She has under her belt a production company, numerous product and services ambassadorships, fashion collaborations, an app, and more recently a reality show, Being Bonang now on its second season.
Sitting with our content editor, Bernd Fischer, Matheba talks to us about her star power, her career journey, her challenges, hopes for the future and current projects.
‘The best thing about power and being in control is no longer have to wait for anyone to give you permission,’ says Queen B.
She adds that the reason why she is so steadfast and working so hard is because it’s important to her that her fans get an end product that is better than being too messy or being all over the place.
Maybe the reason that she is number one is because she pays ‘attention to detail. And I care about the things being done right and at a right time and that the end product is wonderful.’
Bonang's Launch Party
To celebrate, GQ alongside Courvoisier is hosted a cover party at The Four Seasons Hotel in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Guests enjoyed a three course meal along with Bonang's signature Courvoisier cocktail: Fleur De Courvoisier - a fruity and floral accompaniment perfect for celebrating SA's media queen.
