Genevieve Nnaji's Directorial Debut 'Lionheart' Has Been Picked Up By Netflix

 

The film is the first Netflix original to come out of Nigeria.

Ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow, Genevieve Nnaji's Lion Heart Lion Heart has been acquired by Netflix. This makes the film, the first Netflix original film to come out of Nigeria's bubbling film industry.

Lionheart is the veteran Nollywood actress' directorial debut, and it's clearly already making a major splash. The film also stars Nnaji in the lead role, alongside Nkem OwohPete Edochie and Onyeka Onwenu.

The film sees Nnaji's character trying to juggle family and her thriving career, which proves to be a major challenge as she's faced with rampant sexism in the workplace.

Running a company can be challenging, especially if you are a female in a male-dominated industry. Looking to prove her worth, Adaeze steps up to the challenge when her father, Chief Ernest Obiagu is forced to take a step back due to health issues. Ironically, he appoints his crude and eccentric brother, Godswill, instead to run the company with his young daughter. Complications arise when they discover that the family business is in dire financial straits and both Adaeze and Godswill try to save the company in their own way to crazy and often hilarious results.
