'Fruits of Naij' Is the Exhibition Highlighting Young Nigerian Artists Creating Change Through Art

'Fruits of Naij' Is the Exhibition Highlighting Young Nigerian Artists Creating Change Through Art

The exhibition opens April 25 at Okay Space in Brooklyn.

An exhibition meeting at the intersection of art and activism is coming to Okay Space in Brooklyn very soon.

Fruits of Naij aims to celebrate the strides that young, Nigerian artists are taking in the creative industry while raising awareness about the conditions of internally displaced persons in their home country.

The week-long exhibition, curated by Sarah Lorentzen, will showcase the work of Nigerian photographers, painters, and filmmakers whose work can create tangible change in their home country. Viewers will also learn about the state of those living in IDP camps and the various factors that are displacing their communities.

Through partnering with two Nigerian NGOs—Women Without Walls Initiative (WOWWI) and Mandate Health Empowerment Initiative (MHEI)—the Fruits of Naij team is using the exhibition to raise funds for and create awareness around the development and implementation of trauma relief programs for pregnant and nursing women who have been displaced from their homes.

Artists featured include:

Dawn Okoro

Iggy Ldn

Amarachi Nwosu

Tayo Kuku Jr.

Ola'Dapo Davinci

Join us for opening night on Thursday, April 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with sounds by DJ K.O. and a live performance by Mannywellz.

RSVP here.
