First Statue Of Late Queen Elizabeth Unveiled

A new sculpture of King Charles’ late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was unveiled recently.

The statue now guards the cathedral’s entrance in York and overlooks a square that will bear her name.

One month before the late Queen passed away in August, the statue was finished in honor of her platinum jubilee.

The sculpture, which is two meters tall and made of French lepine limestone, weighs 1.1 tons.

At the ceremony today, King Charles said the following:

The late Queen was always vigilant for the welfare of her people during her life.

Now her image will watch over what will become Queen Elizabeth Square for centuries to come.

In front of a large crowd of onlookers outside the 850-year-old sacred structure, the King unveiled the statue. Since her passing on September 8, this is the first statue of his mother.
