NIGERIA INSECURITY: Gunmen invade Plateau Again

NIGERIA INSECURITY: Gunmen invade Plateau Again

Gunmen attacked Kuru residents in Plateau State's Jos South local government area on Friday night, killing one and injuring three others.

The deceased is said to have attended Kuru Science Secondary School.

About five weeks prior, 142 people were reportedly slain in attacks on various communities in the state's Kanam and Wase local government regions.

Gunmen stormed the area around 8 p.m. last night, according to conflicting accounts. Sources stated kids had left the school to charge their phones in the host village when the gunmen stormed the area.

Although the claim of children leaving the school compound could not be verified, the state Police Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Alabo Alfred, responded that the school had not been invaded.

"News making the rounds in some areas of the media space suggesting erroneously that Science School Kuru, Jos is under attack by some groups thought to be terrorists has drawn the attention of the Plateau State Police Command," Alfred stated.

"The Command desires to clarify that on 10/06/2022 at approximately 2000 hours, we received information that some unknown hoodlums were firing along Mararaban Jama'a, Riyom Road, not Science School, Kuru Jos, as reported by a cross section of the media." A high-powered team of police officers and other security agencies responded quickly and mobilized to the scene of the incident after receiving the complaint.

“On reaching the scene, the gunmen had fled leaving behind one person dead and three others injured. The injured persons were conveyed immediately to hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the police are still on the trail of the fleeing suspects. The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bartholomew Onyeka, advised members of the public to go about their lawful business as normalcy has already been restored in the area.

"The Command desires to clarify that on June 10, 2022, at approximately 2000 hours, infor"He also stated that his forces are on the ground to prevent any further disruption of the peace.
