Fear As Three-story building collapses In Abia.
After heavy rain on Saturday night, part of a three-story building at Ahiaeke Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State fell.
The collapsed section was stated to be under construction, but it was suspected that the materials used, particularly the rods, were of poor quality.
The rain began around 9.30 p.m., according to a neighbor, and was so intense that vision was poor and movement was difficult.
The building's owner is from the neighboring Ikwuano LGA and lives outside the country, according to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The source said the entire building had been under construction over the years and “has been beaten by the sun and the rains.”
The owner went ahead and attached the structure that fell after completing the main building, according to the source.
According to the source, the main structure houses a well-known Pentecostal church as well as six tenants, all of whom escaped harm.
The source thanked God that the building contractor's workers had gone home for the weekend on Saturday night.
