Rihanna reshapes maternity wear with a fresh, modern spin on the look.

Rihanna has been a trailblazer since she burst onto the music scene with her 2005 hit Pon De Replay. In 2007 her iconic pixie hairstyle had everyone rocking a short cut with a side fringe.

When she turned her focus from music to cosmetics, her make-up brand Fenty Beauty redefined the industry with its inclusivity of skin shades.

Her inclusive lingerie line did the same thing for bodies after the likes of Victoria’s Secret had set the standard for what lingerie models should look like.

So it comes as no surprise that the Barbados beauty has reinvented maternity fashion when she announced her pregnancy in February this year.

During her Vogue cover in April, writer Chioma Nnadi said Rihanna was “single-handedly rewriting the rules of pregnancy dressing”

Many celebrities have taken a leaf out of the 34-year-old’s playbook, baring their bump and ditching traditional maternity style for the new modern bump-embracing fashion.

From supermodel Adriana Lima to actor Shay Mitchell and even Aussies Shanina Shaik and Tammy Hembrow appear to be influenced by the ‘Rihanna effect’.

Last week, Brittany Bown wore Sir The Label’s Petit Palace Midi Dress to the Grey Matter Soiree event at Dandelion, at Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

The black compact knit midi dress featuring a low scoop neckline and double keyhole detail at centre front was hired from Hire My Wardrobe GRG HIRE.

Owner Georgia Gibbons told AAA that Rihanna has empowered pregnant women to feel more confident in their changing bodies.

“Today rather than hiding it, women are embracing their pregnancy and showing off their pregnant bellies,” she said.

“Rihanna is one to make a statement and for women to follow. She is a great influence on women. Rihanna is empowering women to feel confident in what they wear and show who they are through their choice of clothes, she pushes for women to love their bodies in all shapes and sizes and to show off their skin and love themselves for who they are and what the female body can do, like grow a baby.

“(I’m) absolutely loving the new take on the clothing choices pregnant women are making!”
