OBJ's support for Obi: I'm worried for PDP — Wike

OBJ's support for Obi: I'm worried for PDP — Wike

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo's endorsement of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi for the 2023 presidential election raises concerns about the Peoples Democratic Party's future (PDP).

On Tuesday, Wike spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mgbuodohia Road in Rumuolumene, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

He stated that for Obasanjo to choose Obi over the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who served him as Vice President for eight years, every PDP supporter should be concerned.

"I intended no harm," Wike stated. I'm only concerned since I'm a major PDP member. A man who enjoys PDP should be concerned.

"I wasn't making fun of anyone. I was only concerned. My wish was for Obasanjo to keep silent and not say anything. That was the entirety of my prayer, yet it was in vain.

"My hope was that if this man makes any speech, it will convict us since he was President under the Peoples Democratic Party for eight years, and he worked with our presidential candidate.

"And the pitch of our presidential council is that our presidential candidate did extremely well, with expertise, over the eight years."

When chastised for his role in the development, the governor asked, "What did I do? Nothing was done by me.

"All I did was express my worry. If you care about this party, you should investigate what is genuinely wrong.

"You're abusing me for informing the party that we should do something because I'm concerned that we should do something.

"They are not worried, but those of us who since 1998 joined this party, contributed for the survival of this party till now, we keep yelling always when we sense danger approaching.

"Abuses upon abuses, it will not alter anything, rather it will damage more things. What you don't know, ask people for aid, and they will help you solve the problem.

"No one can push us (Integrity Group) out of this house (PDP) we've created. We shall all fight here.

"So, anyone who believes you can just sit in your house and hand out commands is mistaken. The building will fall on you. So you should think twice."

Wike also dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state, claiming that its spirit and strength had left the corpse and that it could not get electoral support from the Rivers voters.

Governor Wike specifically mentioned Chief Anele Orobule, a fervent supporter of the former governor, Chibuike Amaechi, who was discredited as a result of broken promises.

He warned Rivers State residents to be aware of the APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, claiming he is being fronted by Amaechi because they do not care about the state.

The governor asked Rivers State PDP governorship candidate Sir Siminalayi Fubara to consider building a bridge connecting Rumuolumeni to Eagle Island in Port Harcourt if elected.
