9 hot Nollywood movies coming out this December

This December, Nollywood takes center stage with varieties of movies catering for all preferences.

Nollywood gears up to launch an exciting series of movies that guarantee plenty of entertainment and drama.

From gripping storylines to stellar performances, below are the sneak peek at nine hot Nollywood movies that are set to hit the screens this festive season.

A tribe called Judah

Kicking off the list is A tribe called Judah, a compelling tale of a family who decide to rob a mall with the help of their mother. However, on getting there, they are faced with armed robbers.

The film is co-directed by Adeoluwa Owu and Funke Akindele, the film stars Jidekene Achufusi, Olumide Owuru, Timini Egbuson, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde as the sons of Jedidah Judah (played by Funke Akindele). Also starring Genoveva Umeh, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Ebele Okaro, Uzor Arukwe and Yvonne Jegede.

With a stellar cast and captivating narrative, this movie is poised to be a must-watch this December as it hit the cinema on December 15th.

Afamefuna: Nwa-boi story

Next up is Afamefuna: Nwa-boi story, a cinematic masterpiece that explores the themes of an Igbo apprenticeship system and how it revitalised the community’s economy by allowing successful Igbo men to pass on their knowledge and blessings to apprentices, perpetuating the cycle of wealth creation.

Expect a rollercoaster of emotions and top-notch performances from the cast which includes, Paul Nnadiekwe, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Stan Nze, Alexx Ekubo, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, Segun Arinze, Jide Kene Achufusi, and Noble Igwe.

On the back of its world premiere at AFRIFF 2023, the Kayode Kasum-directed film will be in cinemas today, December 1st.

Ada Omo Daddy

For lovers of Drama, Ada Omo Daddy promises to be a visual delight with its stunning cinematography and compelling storyline. 

This movie is co-directed by Akay Mason and Adebayo Tijani, Ada Omo Daddy, is a Mercy-Aigbe production that marks her big return to the box office. The film stars Omowunmi Dada, Sola Sobowale, Dele Odule, Tomi Ojo and Tayo Faniran. Nollywood veterans Charles Okafor and Fred Amata are also names slated to join Aigbe’s big cinema return. The film is aimed to unify the Igbo and Yoruba cultures.

Coming to cinema on December 15th, get ready for an immersive experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Malaika

Renowned Nigerian actress and producer Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has released the first new trailer for her upcoming film, “Malaika.” The film is set to debut in cinemas on December 22, 2023, and is directed by Steve Olufemi Sodiya.

It tells a story of a barren woman, who attempts to remedy her situation with her friends and family whilst battling intense anger issues. She goes through a spiritual journey where she sees the light of her behaviour.

Malaika is a captivating film that combines emotions, love, anger and suspense to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Breath of life

Written and directed by BB Sasore (God Calling), the inspirational film tells the story of a man who has lost his sense of purpose until an encounter with a young man changes his life and destiny.

Produced by Eku Edewor, Breath of Life is set in 1950s Lagos, Nigeria. Led by Wale Ojo, the cast includes Genoveva Umeh, Chimezie Imo, Bimbo Manuel, Tina Mba, Demola Adedoyin, Sam Dede, and Sambasa Nzeribe.

The upcoming title is a Prime Video original, the first of a three-picture deal with Nollywood production house Nemsia Films. It is set to be debuted on cinema on December 15th.

Blood Vessel

Thriller enthusiasts, brace yourselves for Blood vessel, a suspenseful journey of six people fleeing a town devastated by oil pollution stow away on a mysterious ship — not realizing the dangers that await..

Blood Vessel, written by David Musa Jeffrey, is a mystery and crime thriller film from Charles Okpaleke’s Play Network Studios. Directed by Moses Inwang and starring David Ezekiel, Adaobi Dibor and Jide Kene Achufusi, Blood Vessel will be out on Netflix by december 8.

With twists and turns aplenty, this movie guarantees an adrenaline-pumping experience.

 WAR: Wrath and Revenge

The drama series, War: Wrath and Revenge is a spin-off from the well-loved ‘Sons of the Caliphate.’ Follow the captivating journey of Nuhu Bula as he ascends to the governorship of Kowa, all orchestrated by the cunning machinations of his wife, Binta. But when Binta learns of her husband’s plans to marry a second wife, her fury knows no bounds as she fights to safeguard her love. ‘War’ explores themes of ambition, betrayal, and the lengths one will go to protect what they hold dear.

Produced by Mo Abudu and directed by Dimbo Atiya, the film is set to be released on December 28th.

It stars Mofe Duncan, Rahama Sadau, Yakubu Mohammed, Patrick Doyle, Ayoola Ayolola, Ifeanyi Kalu, Theresa Edem, Bikiya Graham Douglas, Daniel Okosun, Maikudi “Cashman”, Mickey Odeh, Sophia Muhammed, Uzee Usman, Padita Agu and Ahide Adum.

Agu

Agu unfolds as a six-part legal drama that delves into the realms of law, family conflicts, and a hint of the supernatural. The narrative revolves around three central characters—Etim portrayed by Kanayo O Kanayo, Pius brought to life by Nonso Odogwu, and Victoria portrayed by Ruby Okezie—as they become ensnared in a murder case.

The cast includes Mofe Duncan, Tina Mba, Linda Ejiofor, Ireti Doyle, Ego Nwosu, Vine Olugu and ex-Big Brother Titans housemate, Miracle Op. Agu premieres exclusively on Showmax on December 14.

Wura  Season 2

The highly anticipated second season of the Showmax Original telenovela, Wura will premiere on Monday, 4 December 2023, with four new episodes every week from Monday to Thursday.

After a triumphant inaugural season that garnered a substantial fan following, the telenovela returns, pledging an abundance of intrigue, drama, suspense, and scandalous moments for its audience.

In the trailer for Season 2, Fola seeks forgiveness from Dimeji and Paulina, but Paulina is not willing to forgive him even though Dimeji is trying to see reason.
