Zelensky invites Tinubu to Ukraine on state visit

Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, has congratulated Nigeria's President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on his election win.

This was despite Zelensky's invitation to his war-torn nation of Ukraine for a state visit.

The award comes two months after the former governor of Lagos was proclaimed the victor of the controversial presidential election.

Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party's Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party opponent, Peter Obi, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.

Zelenskyy congratulated Tinubu on his victory and stated that his war-torn nation is committed to expand collaboration with Nigeria.

The Ukrainian leader also took use of the opportunity to invite the president-elect to visit Ukraine on a state visit following his inauguration on May 29.

"Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on your election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," he said in his letter.

"Despite extremely difficult testing times caused by Russia's full-scale armed aggression against our state, Ukraine is determined to strengthen bilateral and international organization cooperation with Nigeria."

"We are thankful for your country's support for the United Nations Organization's General Assembly Resolution "Principles of the UN Charter underpinning a comprehensive, fair, and durable peace in Ukraine."

"I anticipate Nigeria's active participation in its practical implementation." We consider furthering global food security, for which Ukraine has been and continues to be a trusted global guarantee, as a key area of collaboration.

"The successful implementation of the Ukrainian initiative "Grain from Ukraine," which aims to significantly increase the supply of grain to African countries in order to prevent famine, will make it easier to complete this task."

"At this time, I would like to invite you to pay an official visit to Ukraine at a time that is convenient for you."

"I am confident that your visit will strengthen the dialogue between our countries and contribute to the further consolidation of the international community's joint efforts aimed at solving today's urgent challenges, particularly the crisis situation caused by Russia in terms of ensuring global food security."
