President Tinubu 'blames' documents error for Chicago varsity certificate discrepancies on Clark

President Bola Tinubu has stated that errors on the certificate awarded to him by Chicago State University were caused by a clerical error.

According to Tinubu's attorneys, Oluwole Afolabi and Christopher Carmichael, an anonymous university staffer made the error concerning the date the school mentioned on his recently-issued certificate, resulting in "the appearance of differences."

The accusation is contained in their answer to a petition filed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is requesting that Tinubu's academic records be released by the institution.

Tinubu has until August 23 to file a formal response explaining why his information should not be handed to the former vice president.

According to the president, he has a bachelor of science in business administration from Chicago State University.

However, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential candidate in February, claimed that Tinubu's academic credentials were faked.

"Unfortunately, in responding to the illegal and invalid subpoena, CSU made several errors," the president's attorneys noted.

"CSU issued a new diploma to Bola A. Tinubu, but the date of graduation was incorrectly written as June 27, 1979."

"The correct date was June 22, 1979, but that scrivener's error - along with a change in the CSU logo, font on the diploma, and CSU leadership who signed the diploma - created the appearance of differences between an earlier issued diploma and the one issued in response to the 2022 subpoena."

The former vice-president is also looking for the credentials Tinubu presented to CSU before being accepted.
