Delta Govt inaugurates flood mgt c’ttee

The Delta State Government has formed a 14-member Flood Disaster Management Committee for 2023.
The group, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, and co-chaired by Commissioner for Special Duties, Ejiro Terry, is tasked with recommending adequate flood prevention and management methods.
It is also responsible for addressing human displacement and recommending methods for providing relief goods to victims.
Dr Kingsley Emu, who inaugurated the Committee in Asaba, said arrangements were underway to establish camps in flood-prone regions of the state to house individuals who may be affected by the impending flood.
He encouraged committee members to guarantee that inhabitants of the state, particularly those residing in coastal communities, are made aware of the need to relocate to higher land.
Emu advised them to be diligent in their work, noting that much depended on them to ensure that the actual flood victims were well cared for.
The committee also includes Mr Jamani Ejiro, Commissioner for Environment, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, Commissioner for Health, Dr Kingsley Ashibuogwu, Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, Commissioner for Secondary Education, and Orode Uduaghan, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Social and Girl Child Development.
Other members include Funyei Manager, Commissioner for Special Projects, Hon. Victor Ebonka, Chairman of ALGON, and Olorogun Jaro Egbo, Special Adviser for Transportation. Barr. Lyna Ocholor, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Karo Ovemeso, Executive Secretary SEMA, Sir. Festus Ahon, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and Mr. Greg Ejowomu, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Special Duties will all serve as Secretaries.
