Kanu’s detention: Tinubu not different from Buhari, says Sowore
Omoyele Sowore, a rights activist and former African Action Congress presidential candidate, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is no different from his predecessor, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
He drew the analogy on Thursday after being refused the opportunity to meet with Nnamdi Mazi, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, at the Department of State Services Headquarters in Abuja.
He claimed that despite Kanu's legitimate invitation, he was denied the opportunity to meet the struggling leader of the banned organisation.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the former presidential candidate said that this was the second time he had been refused access to Kanu.
"#FreeNnamdiKanuNow I spent several hours at the @OfficialDSSNG headquarters in Abuja, I was invited by Onyedu @MaziNnamdiKanu to pay him a visit in custody, but after hours of rigmarole, the DSS told me I couldn't see him today," he wrote.
"This is the second time I've been denied lawfully ordered visitation with Mazi since his kidnapping from Kenya."
"The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime continues to show intolerance for lawful self-determination agitation." Tinubu is not unlike Muhammadu Buhari #RevolutionNow."
According to the PUNCH, Kanu has told the Federal Government that despite being exonerated by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja, he will not beg for his release.
This was stated in a letter signed by Kanu's principal counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, on August 25, 2023.
Ozekhome has expressed concern about Kanu's confinement facility in the supervision of the Department of State Services.
The lawyer asked the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory's High Court to appoint a Magistrate to inspect the detention center.
