Soundcity and MTV base yanks Naira Marley off their playlist

The Nigerian music industry appears to be saying farewell to Naira Marley bit by bit. In a brave decision that has sparked an industry revolution, two major music stations, Soundcity and MTV Base, have removed Naira Marley's songs from their playlists.

This judgement follows the artist's suspected involvement in Mohbad's terrible death.

Those who have been following Naira Marley and Mohbad's romance may not be surprised by the news. Mohbad, who had previously worked with Naira Marley's Marlian Records label, left the label in 2022. Tensions between the two artists have since risen, resulting in public spats.

One of the most noteworthy occurrences occurred in October of 2022, when Mohbad broadcast a live video of himself crying and escaping from a building in Chevron, Lekki. Since his death, all eyes have clearly been drawn to none other than Naira Marley.

The decision by Soundcity and MTV Base to remove Naira Marley's songs from their playlists is a show of solidarity in reaction to the continuing disputes. While they haven't specified specifically why they chose the musician, it's evident that the cloud of controversy surrounding him played a role in their decision.

Remember that Kemi Filani revealed yesterday that Splash FM, another big player in the music industry, has also stopped playing Naira Marley's tracks. They've taken a stand and urged other stations to do the same. This joint move sends a strong statement that the music business will not tolerate controversies or claimed links to tragic occurrences.

Naira Marley's social media followers have also dropped significantly in the last week. His following, which reached at 7.5 million at the time of Mohbad's death, has now dropped to 6.9 million.
