Senator Basheer Lado Mohammed, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's current financial reforms and emphasis on budgetary restraint are commendable and should be supported by all well-meaning Nigerians.

He made this disclosure during the Senate's screening of Ms Omolola Bridget Oloworaran, the newly appointed Director-General of the National Pension Commission, PenCom.

This screening by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, he stated in a statement signed by Ememmaria Offiong, Assistant Director, Press, Information and Public Relations, in his office, demonstrates President Tinubu's unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria's financial institutions, reducing leakages, and increasing revenue flows to accelerate national development.

"President Tinubu's concept of hiring skilled and highly qualified persons to key roles in major financial institutions remains crucial to his administration's overarching goal of improving fiscal discipline.

"Under Ms Oloworaran's leadership, PenCom is expected to further the administration's objectives of ensuring financial transparency and accountability while safeguarding pension funds and advancing sustainable pension reforms for the benefit of all Nigerians," Senator Lado told reporters.

The special adviser also praised President Tinubu for appointing 21 nominees to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

According to him, the nominees, who have also been screened by the Senate, would, if confirmed, help to reassess revenue-sharing mechanisms and increase revenue inflows into the national treasury, in line with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to promote equitable revenue allocation and economic growth.

He stated, "President Tinubu's selection of these highly qualified appointees demonstrates his commitment to ensuring that only competent individuals with the necessary expertise are entrusted with managing Nigeria's critical financial institutions."

"Their leadership will be pivotal to improving revenue generation and allocation processes, thereby ensuring that public resources are managed efficiently and transparently for the benefit of all citizens."

Senator Lado also stated that, as part of efforts to promote and facilitate productive engagement between the executive and legislative branches of government, the Office of the Special Adviser is committed to fostering healthy collaboration between both arms in the pursuit of transparency, accountability, and effective governance.

"As the nominees await Senate confirmation, the Office of the Special Adviser remains committed to fostering a constructive working relationship that ensures the swift legislative approval of executive nominees and the smooth implementation of government policies aimed at national development," according to him.
