Ikorodu City Coach Confident in Squad Depth Despite Waliu Ojetoye’s CHAN Call-Up

Ikorodu City head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has assured fans that the team’s performance will not be hindered by the absence of their captain, Waliu Ojetoye, who has been invited to the Super Eagles B squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana.

Ojetoye, a key figure in Ikorodu City’s lineup, is among the 30 players selected by head coach Augustine Eguavoen for the clash with Ghana’s Black Galaxies. Despite the defender’s importance to the team, Aweroro remains unfazed, emphasizing the squad’s preparedness.

“We have players that will cover up for those who have received call-ups to the Super Eagles B team,” Aweroro told the media. “We signed like 30 players, and others too can do the job.”

The home-based Super Eagles players are scheduled to begin their camping exercise at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Wednesday, December 4.

Ojetoye’s call-up is a testament to his individual brilliance and a proud moment for Ikorodu City. However, this raises critical questions:

  • Can Ikorodu City maintain their momentum in his absence?

  • Are fans confident in the depth of their squad, or will Ojetoye’s leadership be sorely missed?

For supporters, this scenario reflects a broader discussion about how clubs manage player absences during international duty:

  • Does Aweroro’s confidence in his bench strength reassure you?

  • Should clubs push for scheduling adjustments during major qualifiers to minimize impact?

Let us know your thoughts! Should fans worry, or is Ikorodu City’s squad ready to step up in Ojetoye’s absence?
