Tony Adams: Arsenal Fortunate in Victory Against Manchester United
Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has weighed in on the Gunners' 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, December 4. While celebrating the win, Adams noted that Arsenal may have benefitted from lenient refereeing in crucial moments of the match.
The Premier League clash saw Jurrien Timber and William Saliba score for Arsenal, but Adams, speaking on Premier League Productions, highlighted contentious plays involving both players.
Timber’s goal, which came from a Declan Rice cross, was scrutinized for a push on Rasmus Hojlund. Adams explained, “The cross from Declan Rice is on a sixpence every time—he must be practising. But Timber gave a little push at the near post to flick it in. Referees are not blowing this stuff up now. I’m not complaining—it’s brilliant football.”
He also pointed to Saliba’s goal, observing that the defender appeared to impede his marker before scoring. “Saliba ends up scoring, but he’s pushed his opponent. The referee let it all go,” Adams added.
Despite his observations, Adams celebrated the tactical brilliance of Arsenal’s play and the quality of the team’s set-pieces, crediting Declan Rice for his exceptional delivery and the overall execution of the squad.
