Jason Cundy Suggests Bryan Mbuemo as Mohamed Salah’s Potential Replacement at Liverpool

Jason Cundy Suggests Bryan Mbuemo as Mohamed Salah’s Potential Replacement at Liverpool

Former Chelsea defender, Jason Cundy, has suggested that Liverpool should consider signing Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, should the Egyptian forward depart Anfield in the future. Salah's contract with Liverpool is set to expire in June 2025, and as of now, no new deal has been confirmed, leaving uncertainty around his long-term future at the club.

Cundy, speaking on talkSPORT, believes Mbuemo could be the ideal candidate to step into Salah’s boots. He described the Brentford winger as a "mini Salah" due to his ability to cut in from the right-hand side and unleash powerful shots with his left foot, similar to the style that has made Salah one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wingers.

"He’s a little mini Salah off that right-hand side, [cutting in onto] his left foot. He has got years left at the top level," Cundy remarked, adding that Mbuemo’s youth and skill set make him a viable alternative should Liverpool decide to move on from Salah.

Since joining Brentford from Troyes in 2019, Mbuemo has consistently impressed in the Premier League with his pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability. His performances have made him one of the standout players for the Bees, and it’s no surprise that he is now being linked with a big move to a club like Liverpool.

Salah’s Future at Liverpool: A Growing Concern?

Liverpool's fans will no doubt be hoping for a resolution to Salah's contract situation sooner rather than later, as the Egyptian remains integral to Jurgen Klopp’s attack. However, if the player decides to seek a new challenge or if the club chooses not to extend his deal, the search for a replacement will inevitably become a priority.

Mbuemo’s profile as a right-winger with an eye for goal could make him a solid option for Klopp. He already boasts Premier League experience and is accustomed to performing under pressure. While replacing a player of Salah's caliber is no easy task, Mbuemo’s potential to grow into a top-tier player makes him an intriguing prospect.

Opinion: Mbuemo Could Be a Smart, Long-Term Investment for Liverpool

While it’s still early to speculate about Salah’s future, Cundy’s suggestion of Mbuemo does make sense for Liverpool. The 24-year-old has all the qualities needed to thrive at a club like Liverpool — pace, creativity, and a natural goal-scoring instinct. His ability to play both as a winger and occasionally through the middle gives him the versatility that Klopp often seeks in his attacking players.

What’s more, Mbuemo is still in the prime of his career, and joining a bigger club like Liverpool could help him develop even further under the guidance of Klopp, one of the best managers in the world at nurturing attacking talent. The prospect of Mbuemo and the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Núñez linking up in Liverpool's front line is certainly an exciting one.

If Liverpool is indeed planning for a future without Salah, Mbuemo could represent a smart, long-term investment. However, the club will need to act quickly, as his performances at Brentford are unlikely to go unnoticed, and other top clubs may soon come calling.

Looking Ahead

As Liverpool’s search for a potential Salah replacement begins, Mbuemo’s name is one that should certainly be on the radar. With a growing reputation in the Premier League, a move to a bigger club may be on the horizon for the talented winger, and if that move happens to be to Liverpool, it could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for both the player and the club. For now, all eyes will be on how Salah’s contract situation unfolds and whether Mbuemo’s name rises higher on Liverpool's list of potential targets.
