NAFDAC Raids Trade Fair Complex, Nabs Producers of Fake Alcohol Drinks
In a recent crackdown on illicit alcohol production, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against illegal activities within the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.
Led by NAFDAC's Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, the operation uncovered a network of unauthorized production and distribution of various alcoholic beverages. Acting on credible intelligence, officers raided multiple locations within the complex, including Shop 34, Shop 17/24, and attachment 17/2 in Niger 4 Plaza.
During the operation, authorities discovered a range of incriminating evidence, including mini plastic mixing tanks, improvised filters, cartons of empty bottles bearing intact labels, corks, packaging materials, and a significant quantity of already produced and packaged drinks.
In total, over 3,452 cartons of both empty and filled bottles were seized. The value of the confiscated goods is estimated to be in excess of two hundred and fifty million naira (N250 million).
This successful operation signifies NAFDAC's unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards in the food and beverage industry. By dismantling illegal alcohol production networks, NAFDAC aims to protect consumers from the potential dangers associated with counterfeit and substandard products.
The agency continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to the production and distribution of food and drugs. Through collaborative efforts and stringent enforcement measures, NAFDAC remains steadfast in its mission to promote the safety and integrity of consumable goods across Nigeria.
