Bobrisky, a controversial Nigerian cross-dresser and socialite, has been convicted to six months in prison by the Federal High Court of Lagos.

The cross-dresser was sentenced to jail for the following reasons:

His charges:

His punishment came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned him on six counts.

The court ruled that Bobrisky tampered with the Naira cash issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying a total of N400,000 at imax Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki on March 24, 2024.

It also stated that between July and August 2023, Bobrisky tampered with the sum of N50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Naira) while dancing at a social gathering at Aja Junction, Korodu.
Similarly, in December 2023, Bobrisky tampered with the sum of N20,000.00 (Twenty Thousand Naira) by spraying Naira notes at White Steve Event Hall in Ikeja while dancing at a social gathering.

The court further ruled that the dress-crosser interfered with the sum of N20,000.00 (Twenty Thousand Naira) by spraying while dancing at a social event, maybe in 2022 at Event Hall, Oniru, Victory Island.

According to the court, Bobrisky’s actions were in violation of and punished under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

However, two of the allegations were ultimately withdrawn, and he pled guilty to naira abuse but asked for compassion as a first-time offender.

Bobrisky’s sentence

Justice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced Okuneye, who has been detained since his arrest last week, to six months in prison.

Deterrent for other Naira abusers.

Justice Awogboro stated the punishment will serve as a warning to those who abuse and mutilate Nigerian cash.

The judge determined that the jail term will begin on March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest.

Background

On April 5, Bobrisky was convicted after pleading guilty to four charges of naira abuse.

The judge deferred the case until last Thursday for sentence, but the Federal government designated the day a national holiday in honour of Eid-l-Fitr.
