Ndidi close to equaling best goal tally

Ndidi close to equaling best goal tally

Wilfred Ndidi is on the verge of tying his personal best goal total in a single season when he plays his 30th Championship game for Leicester City against Southampton on Tuesday (today), according to TalkTalk Nigeria Sports Extra.

Ndidi scored his fifth goal of the season in his 270th appearance for the club in a thrilling 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in a Midlands derby on Saturday, propelling Leicester to the top of the English Championship table.

The 27-year-old midfielder is now third in assists for the team with six, having scored five goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this season.

The Nigerian's highest European tally since arriving in 2014 came in the 2016/17 season, when he scored six goals in 57 games for Genk and Leicester.

Ndidi scored twice in two legs against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League for Genk, once in the Belgian Cup, and three times for Leicester during the season under review.

He also scored twice in the Premier League (vs. Stoke City and Watford) and once in the FA Cup, against Derby County in the fourth round.

The game against Southampton will be his 30th in the Championship season, and he has three goals and five assists while playing in a more aggressive role for the Foxes.

Leicester now lead the EFL log with 91 points from 43 games, and a win over the Saints might increase their hopes of promotion with two games remaining.

The game will also provide opportunity for Nigerian duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Joe Aribo to add to their season goals tally. Iheanacho, who has just played 45 minutes of league action in 2024, will be hoping to benefit from Enzo Maresca's rotation, since Jamie Vardy seldom starts two games in a straight.

However, Iheanacho faces heavy opposition from Patson Daka and Tom Cannon. Daka has seven more goals and five assists than him. Aribo, for his part, has four goals in 32 league games and will look to score in consecutive games for the first time this season.
