Man. City keep tabs on Arsenal after crushing Brighton

Manchester City crushed Brighton 4-0 away from home on Thursday to keep tabs on league leader Arsenal with still an outstanding match to play.

City will go top if they win their outstanding match.

Kelvin De Bruyne opened the scoring for City 17 minutes into the game. A nice lofted pass into the box by Kyle Walker was pounced on by De Bruyne. His close-range strike flashed past Jason Steele and into the top right corner.

Two minutes later, Lewis Dunk outjumped the defence to meet the resulting corner and headed the ball towards the left side of the goal. The long-range header was not powerful enough, and the keeper comfortably made a save.

Nine minutes later a free-kick was fired in by Phil Foden and the ball inadvertently flicked off a defender and spanned into the net, leaving Jason Steele stranded.

City got their third goal in the 34th minute. Fodenhad a wonderful piece of finishing. He made a yard for himself after a well-taken pass inside the box and struck the ball into the bottom left corner for his brace. In the 62nd minute, Julian Alvarez fired the rebound into the bottom left corner after the ball broke to him in the box to make it 0-4 for City.

In the 53rd minute Joao Pedro went on a mazy run, skipped past two defenders and pulled the trigger in front of the keeper. Ederson made a decent save to deny his effort directed to the bottom left corner.
