PSG ready to pay €120m for Osimhen
According to TalkTalk Nigeria Sports Extra, English Premier League trio Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all unlikely to sign Napoli's Victor Osimhen since French club Paris Saint-Germain has agreed to pay the €120 million release clause in the Nigerian's current contract.
Despite signing a contract extension in December, the Nigeria international is set to leave Naples after a great four-year stint at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Following his success in Italy, Osimhen is now one of Europe's most sought-after strikers.
The 25-year-old was instrumental in Napoli winning the Serie A title last season, their first in almost 30 years.
The Nigerian striker scored 31 goals in 39 games, 26 of them in the league.
Osimhen has 74 goals in 129 games for Napoli, and it is unsurprising that he has been connected with some of Europe's elite clubs.
If Il Mattino's claim is to be believed, the Nigerian could be on his way to France after the Italian media outlet revealed that the French club was willing to pay his release clause.
"Victor Osmihen is close to signing with PSG this summer!" "The French club has decided to pay his release clause of €120 million," the publication stated.
The news will come as a significant blow to his pursuers, particularly Arsenal and Chelsea. Both teams have selected Osimhen as their major attacking target for the 2024/25 season, and the player is also interested in the move.
The Premier League clubs are looking for a striker ahead of next season.
Chelsea have largely relied on Nicolas Jackson to obtain their goals, but the former Villarreal man has failed to produce. His terrible performance in the past few days during games against Manchester City and Arsenal has underlined why the Blues are in serious need of a reliable striker.
While Arsenal have scored the most goals in the Premier League this season, Mike Arteta still needs a goal scorer because Gabriel Jesus has fallen short of expectations.
