Official! Mbappe to leave PSG at end of season

Kylian Mbappe revealed on Friday that he will leave French champions Paris Saint-Germain at the conclusion of the season, with Real Madrid reportedly his next destination.

"I wanted to let you all know that this is my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. "I will not extend, and the adventure will end in a few weeks," Mbappe stated in a video broadcast on social media.

"I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday."

PSG has already won the Ligue 1 title, their tenth in the last twelve seasons, and will collect the trophy after Sunday's game against Toulouse, their last of the season at home.

Borussia Dortmund eliminated Luis Enrique's side from the Champions League in the semi-finals this week, with a 1-0 setback at home on Tuesday securing a surprising 2-0 aggregate defeat.

It means Mbappe will not receive the send-off he had hoped for in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium on June 1, and his seven-year stay at PSG will conclude without ever winning Europe's top club title.

Mbappe informed PSG informally in February that he intended to leave when his contract expired at the end of the current season.

The 25-year-old has never said this publicly, let alone verified where he will move next, but it appears that he is headed to Real Madrid.

"It's a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world," Mbappe remarked.

"It allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history, some of the greatest champions," he said.

"I never expected it to be so difficult to announce that..." But I believe I needed this a new challenge, after seven years.”
Mbappe did not find the net in either leg of the Dortmund tie but has scored 43 goals in all competitions this season, with 26 of those coming in Ligue 1.

He will still try to add to his club record 255 goals for PSG and earn another medal in the French Cup final – Mbappe has won six Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, and the now-defunct League Cup twice in his seven years with his hometown club.

Following Sunday's game, PSG will finish their league season with away games against Nice and relegation-threatened Metz, before Mbappe concludes his career with the club in the Cup final in Lille.
