Tobi Amusan, the world record holder, is the fastest woman in the women's 100m hurdles this year, winning the first Jamaica Athletics Invitational in Kingston in 12.40 seconds, beating Jamaican and world champion Danielle Williams.

For the majority of the race, Amusan trailed defending world champion Williams and America's Nia Ali, but surged ahead in the last stages, smashing Tonea Marshall's world-leading record of 12.42 seconds set on April 20.

Williams finished second in 12.46 seconds, with Christina Clemens of the United States taking third in 12.54 seconds.

Yanique Thompson, another Jamaican sprinter, finished fourth in 12.59 seconds, while Ali fell to fifth in 12.65.

Amusan and other well-known athletes choose to attend the Jamaica Invitational over the Doha Diamond League.

The Nigerian closed last season on a strong note, winning the Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon for the third time in a row, silencing critics of her disastrous performance at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where she finished fifth and lost the title to Williams.
