EPL: Thomas Partey ‘very lucky’ against Man United – Rooney
The Super Eagles will now report to camp on Tuesday, May 28, before of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa's Bafana Bafana.
Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United legend, says Thomas Partey was'very lucky' to escape handing away a first-half penalty in Arsenal's 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
Rooney said this when questioned about Manchester United's 37th-minute penalty appeal after Amad Diallo was brought down in the box by Partey.
Partey had extended his leg and there appeared to be some touch, but replays revealed that Amad's foot had actually hit the Ghanaian midfielder's rather than the other way around.
"I don't think this is a penalty [but] Partey is very lucky," Rooney told Sky Sports.
"He gets off his feet early and luckily only gets a nick on the ball. For me, this is not a penalty but Partey is very lucky.”
