NFF President Reveals Duration, Targets In Finidi George’s Super Eagles Contract

Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has clarified the contract conditions for Finidi George, the new Super Eagles coach.

Since Finidi George was announced as the Super Eagles' head coach, there have been numerous suspicions about the terms of the deal.
Initially, sources suggested that the former Enyimba coach had signed a deal with the NFF that would keep him in charge of the Super Eagles for a year, with the option of a further year.

Contrary to speculation, the NFF president stated that Finidi George did not sign such a deal and that the former Ajax winger is anticipated to stay with the squad until the end of 2026.

Finidi George is anticipated to lead the Super Eagles to the 2025 Africa Nations Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, if they qualify for both tournaments.

"I don't know where the one-year contract information came from, but as far as our contract with Finidi is concerned, he will be in charge of the team till the end of 2026," Gusau told Soccer Africa.

"So I don't think 2026 is going to be a one-year contract."
In addition, the NFF president has disclosed that Finidi George has been assigned the objective of leading the Super Eagles to at least a semi-final finish at the 2025 AFCON and a quarter-final finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The crucial point is that in any contract, there must be certain indices and targets in place for someone to achieve peak performance," Gusau added.

"And the first goal is to qualify the team for next year's Nations Cup and advance to at least the semi-finals, as well as to qualify the team for the World Cup and reach the quarter-finals.

"So these are the main targets we put in place for him in the contract, and by the grace of God, we are working hard to see how we can achieve that."
