Aina names Ronaldo toughest opponent
Ola Aina, a winger for the Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest, selected the toughest opponent he had ever faced during his remarkable career, and his response may not surprise you, according to TalkTalk Nigeria Sports Extra.
Aina revealed this during a quick-fire question session shared on Nottingham Forest's social media page.
The Nigerian international was asked various questions, one of which was about the player he hated the most as a defender.
When asked who the most difficult player he has ever faced, he responded without hesitation: "Cristiano Ronaldo."
The Nigerian and Portuguese players faced off in the Italian Serie A.
Aina was with Torino at the time, and Ronaldo was with Juventus, so they were city rivals.
The Nigerian joined Torino on loan from Chelsea in 2018, before making the transfer permanent in 2019, coinciding with Ronaldo's move to Serie A from Real Madrid.
Ronaldo triumphed over the Nigerian, scoring three goals in four matches.
Although both players returned to the Premier League—Ronaldo with Manchester United and Aina with Forest—their paths never crossed because the Portuguese left Old Trafford prematurely.
The Nottingham Forest utility player was asked other questions, but one in particular drew viewers' attention was when asked about the best footballer he played with in his career.
“I wouldn’t say the best, but I’ll probably put Eden Hazard.
Aina played alongside the former Belgian international during his time with his boyhood club, Chelsea.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has made 20 appearances in the Premier League scoring one goal and providing an assist.
