Boniface scores again as Leverkusen extend unbeaten run

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface came off the bench to score the last goal for German champions Bayer Leverkusen in their 5-1 hammering of Frankfurt on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to 48 games in all competitions.


Nathan Tella, his compatriot, started as a wingback in the game.

After Granit Xhaka started the opener for Xabi Alonso's team, the host side equalized and appeared to reverse the tide of the game, with Frankfurt leading before halftime.

Patrick Schick ensured Leverkusen had a 2-1 lead before the break, while Ezekiel Palacios and Jeremie Frimpong added the third and fourth goals in the second half.

Boniface, who entered the game 30 minutes before the end, scored his 12th league goal of the season in the 89th minute, adding eight assists.


This season, the striker has scored 28 goals for Leverkusen as they hunt two more crowns.

With the league title secured, a spot in the UEFA Europa League final, and a DFB-Pokal final on the horizon, Leverkusen's season couldn't be going any better.
As for the juggernaut that is Leverkusen, they show no signs of slowing down and put on another dominant performance even with boss Xabi Alonso in the stands.

They are now tied with Benfica's 59-year European record for the longest unbeaten streak run in all competitions, and they can write another piece of history against Roma in the second leg semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday.
