Why I quit smoking – Singer Korede Bello

Popular Nigerian artist Korede Bello has spoken about how his upbringing pushed him to smoke cannabis when he was younger.

The 'God Win' hitmaker revealed he eventually quit the habit after realizing smoking wasn't his "thing."

During a recent episode of the 'Say My Piece' podcast, hosted by actress Omotunde Adebowale David, aka Lolo1, Bello revealed that as a boy, he witnessed his father smoking.


"I've tried marijuana before, but it isn't my thing. really early on in my life, I mean not in my life like when I was a youngster, but it was just something that people did around me, and this is something about myself, I have a really addictive nature, so anything I find delightful can turn into an addiction,” he said.




The musician stated that despite his father's smoking and sending him on errands to acquire cigarettes, he warned him against it.

"My father smoked a lot of cigarettes, and as a child, he would send me to acquire him cigarettes. I observed something then: he used to cough a lot, so I'd ask him, 'Daddy, why are you coughing?' and he'd say, 'It's because of the cigarette. "So if you don't want to cough like me, don't smoke," Bello recalled.

He added that because of his father's counsel and his own experience, he got the belief that smoking is "unhealthy."
