Euro 2024: Everyone acts like coaches – Silva defends Ronaldo’s free-kick miss

Portugal player Bernardo Silva has responded to criticism directed at his national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo.

There was speculation of Ronaldo taking free kicks for Portugal ahead of their quarter-final loss to France in the Euro 2024 tournament.

During Portugal's Round of 16 match against Slovenia, Ronaldo failed to convert a few free kicks into goals.

The Al-Nassr superstar also failed to score against France in the quarter-finals after missing a key penalty in the 105th minute of extra time.

When asked about Ronaldo taking free kicks for his country at the tournament, Silva stated, as quoted by O Jogo, "I'm not going to say because I don't know yet." If I knew, I wouldn't say... [laughs]

We understand that criticism is part of the business, which is why we make so much money. We do not grumble because our labor is both good and wicked. It's the passion.

"In June, everyone understands a little bit about football, and everyone imagines themselves as a coach. We accept it. Cristiano is human, and he felt something when he missed the penalty.

"It happens; it is acceptable. Sometimes you react unexpectedly. He believed that he could have done better. In my perspective, it is a fantastic penalty and Oblak's defense is outstanding. "It's the way to deal with emotions," the 29-year-old midfielder explained.

Ronaldo 39, a former Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United great, did not score in Euro 2024 but did offer one assist.
