'Drake, Shallipopi and Odumodublvck inspired me.' - Victony
Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, often known as Victony, has discussed his rap influences.
The music artist, who began his career as a rapper before branching out into other genres, cited global hip-hop heavyweights like as Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J.Cole, and Meek Mill, as well as his colleagues MI Abaga, Odumodublvck, and Shallipopi.
Victony stated in a recent interview with Sway Universe, "I began [my career] as a rapper." Earlier in my career, I admired Kendrick Lamar's artistic ability. Kendrick is one rapper who cares not just about what he says, but also about how he presents it to his followers. That made me a big admirer of Kendrick.
"I also like Drake for his versatility. He was among the first Americans to embrace the Afrobeats movement. I was a Drake fan before then. Obviously, I listened to J. Cole as well. I listened to some Meek Mill.
"MI Abaga also inspires me because he was one of the rappers that popularized the genre in Nigeria and convinced young musicians that they could succeed as rappers in the country. Now, we have Odumodublvck and Shallipopi. Odumodublvck recently completed his US tour. Rap is getting popular in Nigeria. Sometimes I combine it with afrobeats."
Victony said he hopes to inspire other Nigerian youth to pursue their aspirations.
"I'm doing this for Doyin. I am doing this for the kids in Ojo. I hope that they look at me and get inspired,” he said.
