Ololade Ahmed, a Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist better known as Asake, has explained why he sings primarily in Yoruba.

During a recent Instagram interactive session with fans, the 'Ome Ope' singer revealed that he can sing in English but prefers to perform in his home dialect, Yoruba.

He stated that individuals who refuse to accept him singing primarily in Yoruba should stop listening to his music entirely.

"I prefer to sing in Yoruba, but I can also sing in English. If you fvck with me, do so in Yoruba. If not, don't," he said.

All three of Asake's albums, 'Mr Money With The Vibes' (2022), 'Work of Art' (2023), and the most recent 'Lungu Boy', were primarily sung in Yoruba.

Despite being largely sung in Yoruba, his hit song 'Amapiano' was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammys, however it lost to South African artist Tyla's viral hit 'Water'.
