"Marriage and giving have been weaponized in Christianity." - Gospel vocalist Kirk Franklin

Kirk Franklin, a Grammy-winning American gospel musician, claims that Western Christianity has weaponized the notions of marriage, generosity, and sexuality.

During an appearance on the 'Funky Friday' podcast, the 'My Life Is In Your Hands' singer noted that the weaponization of some notions in Christianity has led to many people fulfilling man's doctrine while believing they are performing God's desire.

Kirk complained that some teenagers are unable to minister in churches due to their marital status.

He also noted that families contributed to the weaponization of marriage in society.

"I believe that marriage, giving and sexuality have been weaponised in Western Christianity," he told me.

"Any woman who hears this can attest to our culture: 'Don't be no 30, 35 single black woman and go to the family reunion.'" All the older women will stare at you and ask, 'Why are you not married?'

"It's like a requirement for identity and value. If you don't have a man or children, something about you is wrong. Do you grasp how dysfunctional these messages are, and how we superficialize them?

"[Apostle] Paul believed that marriage is a necessary distraction. I had several acquaintances who served in church ministries, and the churches told them, 'If you're going to be in ministry, you can't be single. So people rapidly marry, believing that they are fulfilling God's purpose for their lives, but in reality they are fulfilling man's dogma.

"God can utilize you even if you are unmarried. You can be single and have a purpose. Being married is not required for God's intervention in your life. It is not. But we've weaponized it. They crucify people when their marriages fail."
