Oba of Benin presents Rema with a royal medal.
The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has bestowed a royal plaque upon afrobeats superstar Rema.
The Oba awarded Rema with the plaque on Thursday, when the musician paid him a visit at his palace before his homecoming concert at Benin City's Ogbe Stadium.
Rema previously attended the groundbreaking ceremony at Edo Arena on Wednesday, alongside Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The governor declared that the 6,000-person arena would be named Rema Dome in honor of the artist.
Rema, born Divine Ikubor, is from Benin City and has been a proud ambassador for Edo State, promoting the state and the tradition of the ancient Benin empire through his music and concerts.
His latest popular song, 'Benin Boys,' featuring fellow Edo-born singer Shallipopi, is a tribute to the city of Benin.
Rema claimed in the song that he earned an Oba medal for his efforts to promote the Kingdom.
