Edo guber: Mercy Johnson chastised for supporting Okpebholo

Mercy Johnson-Okojie, a Nollywood actress, has faced strong criticism on social media for publicly endorsing Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2019 Edo State gubernatorial election.

In a video circulating on social media, the actress was seen campaigning for Okpebholo at a rally, encouraging attendees to vote the APC candidate.

In the video, she underlined the need for change in Edo State, citing a shortage of essential services such as electricity, water, healthcare, and security.

"Aren't you tired? No electricity, water, healthcare, security, or good roads. If you plan to vote for Senator on Monday, raise your hand.

"So when you get to that field early in the morning, vote for Monday, vote for APC, vote for the broom," she went on.

The video, however, has sparked outrage on social media, with opponents accusing her of supporting the national ruling party despite significant economic difficulties in the country.

In the September 21 election, Okpebholo will face Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), among others.
