My song introduced the International Awards category for Afrobeats - Rema.
Nigerian artist Divine Ikubor, nicknamed Rema, claims that the recent inclusion of an Afrobeats category in certain international awards was due to the success of his hit song 'Calm Down.'
Rema told 'The Breakfast Club' that he is on the same level as Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
"I don't want to feel like an Afrobeats Messiah. "Sometimes I can't wait for the OGs to say it, but if no one does, I might have to say it myself," he explained.
"Respect to the OGs, but yes, I am one of the Big 4..." Something as simple as a big award ceremony adding an Afrobeats category because my song's success has already opened doors."
TalkTalk Nigeria recalls that the MTV Video Music Awards established a Best Afrobeats Song category last year, with Rema's 'Calm Down Remix' earning the inaugural prize.
