SWAN decries neglect of sports associations in Ondo and the abandonment of stadiums.

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ondo State has expressed worry about the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development's disregard of sports associations at the state's sports council.

While describing the situation as worrying, SWAN chastised the current leadership of the state's Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for abdicating its obligations and preventing sports associations from accessing their individual resources.

SWAN reported that the circumstance has limited the participation of many sports teams in national and international events.

The sports writers stated in a communiqué issued following its congress presided over by the Chairman, Segun Giwa, that the unnecessary dissolution of committees within the sports council has further complicated issues, with associations able to obtain essential approvals.

The communiqué, signed by Jacob Akintunde, Olasunkanmi Elujoba, and Eniola Olurankinse, who served as Chairman, Secretary, and members of the communiqué drafting committee, condemned the abandonment of the proposed Akure Stadium renovation project, also known as the Ondo State Sports Complex.

According to SWAN, while urging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to personally visit the Sports Complex to assess the situation, he also advocated for the appointment of a board for the Ondo State Sports Council, similar to the initiative taken for the football agency, emphasizing that the move would foster comprehensive development across all sports and allow the ministry of sports to focus on policy-making rather than day-to-day operational challenges.

"The Congress tasked the Sunshine Stars' board of ODSFA-parents to do everything possible with the current young squad to help the team achieve greatness this NPFL season."

"They should also ensure that Sunshine Queens return to the Elite Women's League with adequate training.
