EPL: He wants himself in the spotlight. Manchester United great criticizes referee Michael Oliver.
Peter Schmeichel, a Manchester United star, has criticised referee Michael Oliver for sending off Leandro Trossard during Arsenal's Premier League match against Manchester City on Saturday.
Trossard received a contentious red card just before halftime at the Etihad Stadium.
Referee Oliver had paused play to award a free kick to Man City after Trossard fouled Bernando Silva.
However, the Belgium international appeared to kick the ball away after the whistle was blown, prompting Oliver to show him a second yellow card and sending him out.
Schmeichel was not pleased with Oliver's decision, claiming that he wanted to put himself in the spotlight.
"This is the biggest game in the Premier League thus far! Soft yellow cards! Why is Michael Oliver trying to ruin it? It’s a big game, emotions are flying high — understand what you are dealing with here, but no — Michael Oliver wants himself in the spotlight!” Schmeichel said (via afcstuff on X).
