Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia defeated Kano Pillars Football Club of Kano 2-0 on Sunday in Week 4 of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
Sunday Megwo handed the hosts the lead in the 15th minute of the match, sending the home fans into euphoria.
Playing in front of a large crowd, the Umuahia-based club put pressure on the visiting team, but Kano Pillars goalkeeper Idreesu Ibrahim produced a crucial stop in the 20th minute.
Warriors scored their second goal in the 37th minute, making it 2-0 in the first half under Coach Imama Amakapabo.
Kano Pillars came out strong in the second half, looking to score, but their efforts were stymied by the home team's defense.
The 2-0 victory gives Abia Warriors 5 points from 4 games.
They lost their first encounter 0-2 against Remo Stars of Ikenne in Umuahia before drawing 1-1 and 0-0 with Akwa United and Sunshine Stars, respectively.
Meanwhile, Rivers United of Port Harcourt beat Enyimba FC of Aba 2-0 on Sunday.
