EPL: Gallagher uncovers the reality behind Chelsea's leaving.

Conor Gallagher, a former Chelsea midfielder, claims that the Blues' unwillingness to guarantee him a long-term future prompted him to quit Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid this summer.

The England international also responded to claims that Chelsea's new boss Enzo Maresca did not believe his profile suited his possession-heavy tactics.

The 24-year-old, who is currently on international duty with the England side ahead of Saturday's Nations League match against Ireland, told the media:

"Chelsea makes their own judgments, and they have signed some excellent players to long terms.

"That wasn't the case with me, but what happened is beneficial to everyone.

"I expanded my alternatives and looked at the big picture. It delighted me as soon as I learned that Atletico Madrid was interested."

Gallagher responded to the allegation that he wasn't technically talented enough for Maresca, saying, "I don't think that's true personally.

"I think last season I had a good season with Chelsea as you could see by Mauricio Pochettino playing me every game and showing his trust in me."
