Segun Arinze Explains His Departure from Music, Plans Passion-Driven Comeback

Segun Arinze Explains His Departure from Music, Plans Passion-Driven Comeback

Veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has shed light on his decision to step away from the music scene, emphasizing that his departure was not due to failure but a personal choice to focus on acting. Speaking on the popular podcast Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by Bae U Barbie, Arinze reflected on his journey in the entertainment industry and revealed plans for a non-commercial return to music.

The seasoned actor, who studied Theatre Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, explained that his pivot to acting was deliberate. “I didn’t fail as a musical artist. I left music on my own volition. If I wanted to do music, I would have continued,” he said.

Arinze, known for his commanding presence in Nollywood, acknowledged that his decision to prioritize acting was rooted in his passion for storytelling. “I left school, I did well. I went into my music on my own volition. When I decided to concentrate on my acting career, I concentrated on my acting,” he explained.

A Passionate Comeback on the Horizon

Despite his thriving acting career, Arinze has not completely abandoned his love for music. He revealed plans to return to the music industry, albeit not for commercial purposes.

“I can always go back to music. I didn’t fail. I’ve two albums. I suspended it [my music career]. When I feel it’s time, I will go back. I still sing. The voice is still there,” he said.

The actor made it clear that his comeback would be driven purely by passion. “I will be going back to music but I won’t be coming into it for commercial reasons. I will return to music just because I want to sing, not because I want to make money,” he added.

Opinion: Following the Call of Passion

Segun Arinze’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of following one’s passion. His decision to focus on acting at a time when he could have pursued music further demonstrates a deep understanding of his craft and priorities. By excelling in Nollywood, he has solidified his place as one of the industry’s most respected figures.

His openness about returning to music purely for the love of it is refreshing in an era where financial gain often overshadows artistic expression. Arinze’s perspective challenges the notion that success is solely measured by commercial achievements.

A Legacy Beyond Boundaries

Segun Arinze’s ability to navigate multiple creative avenues—acting and music—speaks to his versatility and enduring relevance in the entertainment industry. While fans eagerly anticipate his music comeback, his declaration of non-commercial intent adds an intriguing layer to the narrative.

It’s not every day that a celebrated figure like Arinze revisits an old passion without the pressures of monetary success. This move could inspire other artists to prioritize authenticity and passion over financial metrics.

As Arinze prepares to reintroduce his musical side to fans, one thing is certain: whether he’s acting on the big screen or singing from the heart, his artistry remains a gift to the Nigerian entertainment scene.
