The Nigerian music industry and diaspora community are grieving the loss of Atlanta-based Fuji musician Richard Olorunrokan Adekola, popularly known as King Rokan. His passing was announced by his close friend and media personality, Ayo Shonaiya, through an emotional Instagram tribute.

King Rokan, fondly referred to as the Oluaye of Georgia, was a celebrated figure in the world of Fuji music. Known for his energetic performances and commitment to promoting Nigerian culture abroad, King Rokan left an indelible mark on the music industry. His passion for Fuji music and his belief in its global appeal inspired countless artists and fans.

In his tribute, Shonaiya shared how King Rokan welcomed him to Atlanta when he first moved there, describing him as more than a friend—he was a father and brother to many.

"The Nigerian community in Atlanta GA lost one of its own over the weekend. The entertainment industry, especially any Fuji or Juju artiste that has ever set foot in Atlanta, just lost a dear friend, colleague, and brother," Shonaiya wrote.

A Visionary Who Championed Fuji Music

Shonaiya revealed that King Rokan had always envisioned Fuji music gaining international recognition. He reminisced about their time together in 2004 when he helped introduce King Rokan’s music to Nigerian audiences through Eko FM. The filmmaker also shared his regret that King Rokan did not live to see a special clip of him included in a documentary on Fuji music’s global journey.

"He always knew Fuji music would take over the world. I was going to surprise him with a little clip of him talking about Fuji music over 20 years ago in my documentary. So gutted he never got to see it," Shonaiya added.

King Rokan’s passing is a significant loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry and the Atlanta community. His dedication to Fuji music and his warm personality earned him the love and respect of many.
