Victor Boniface’s Move to Al Nassr Collapses as Saudi Club Opts for Jhon Durán
Nigerian football star Victor Boniface will remain with Bayer Leverkusen after his highly anticipated move to Al Nassr fell apart at the final stage.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal had reached an advanced stage, with both clubs reportedly agreeing on a €60 million fee. Boniface had even passed his medical and was looking forward to playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Al Nassr never gave the final green light, ultimately choosing to sign Jhon Durán from Aston Villa instead. Romano confirmed the switch, stating:
“Victor Boniface and Al Nassr, deal OFF. Nigerian striker won’t join the club, deal was advanced… but never done as Al Nassr never gave final green light.”
Al Nassr’s New Focus: Jhon Durán
While Boniface’s move fell through, Al Nassr quickly shifted focus to Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán. The Saudi club reportedly agreed to pay €77 million for the Colombian forward, with Durán accepting a long-term deal.
Boniface’s Future at Leverkusen
Despite the disappointment, Boniface’s career at Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen is still thriving. He was a key part of the club’s title-winning squad and remains one of Europe’s rising stars.
Opinion: A Blessing in Disguise?
While the €15 million annual salary in Saudi Arabia was tempting, Boniface staying in Europe could be a better long-term decision for his career. Playing in a top league like the Bundesliga ensures he remains competitive at the highest level, possibly attracting even bigger clubs in the future.
