Portable Declares Mental Stability in Court After Police Declaration
Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has made a dramatic U-turn, declaring that he is mentally stable and healthy while appearing before Magistrate O.L Oke at the Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday.
Background: Police Declaration and Allegations
The 31-year-old Zazoo crooner was declared wanted on Monday by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).
In response, Portable took to Instagram on Tuesday, claiming to be undergoing mental health treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. He stated:
"I fear government. I am a federal government liability. Then I’m a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients."
However, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, dismissed Portable’s claims, insisting that:
"Portable is a wanted man. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed."
Court Appearance and Bail Conditions
Despite his earlier claims, Portable turned himself in within 48 hours and appeared before the Magistrate Court on Thursday. When asked by Magistrate Oke if he was mentally sound, he confidently responded:
"I am mentally alright."
The singer pleaded not guilty to the five-count charges against him and was granted bail of N2 million with a surety in like sum.
The court has adjourned the case till March 5 for further hearing.
