Konga Calls Out Burna Boy for Allegedly Using His Lines: Requests Collaboration Instead of Confrontation
Veteran Nigerian singer Konga has taken to social media to call out Burna Boy, accusing the Grammy-winning artist of recycling his lines and rhythm in recent hit songs.
The seasoned artist made his grievance known in a video message shared via his TikTok page, where he acknowledged Burna Boy’s admiration for his craft but made a peaceful demand in return—a collaboration on his track, "Kabakaba Remix."
Konga’s Calm Yet Bold Approach
Unlike the usual drama that follows plagiarism accusations, Konga’s approach was notably diplomatic. Rather than aggressively demanding compensation or sparking a full-blown feud, he calmly requested a collaboration from Burna Boy and even invited Tiwa Savage to join the remix of his song.
“It’s obvious that you like my vibe and you’ve been playing with a whole lot of my flow, and I appreciate that. I love the fact that you’re using my craft, and I appreciate it, but I want you and Tiwa Savage on Kabakaba Remix. I will be expecting your feedback. I call you out in peace,” Konga stated.
The Alleged Appropriation
Konga claimed that Burna Boy name-dropped him in his collaboration with Asake on “Sungba Remix” and also used some of his lines and rhythm in his song “Update.” To him, this is proof that Burna Boy not only acknowledges his creative work but also finds inspiration from it.
Opinion: A Mature Demand or Desperation?
Konga’s peaceful request for collaboration instead of outright confrontation is a rare move in the entertainment industry. But is it an act of maturity, or simply a creative way to gain attention from one of the most successful Afrobeat stars of the moment?
It’s refreshing to see an artist approach such a sensitive issue with diplomacy. However, it also raises the question: Is Konga trying to reignite his career through Burna Boy’s fame, or is he genuinely seeking artistic recognition for his contributions to Afrobeat?
Whatever the case may be, the ball is now in Burna Boy’s court. Will he acknowledge Konga’s request and make magic happen, or will he simply ignore the call-out?
