Court Defers Arraignment of Mercy Chinwo’s Ex-Manager Over $340,000 Fraud Case
A Federal High Court in Lagos has postponed the arraignment of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, due to an unresolved administrative process.
Onyedikachukwu and his company, Eezee Tee, are facing charges of money laundering and dishonest conversion of $340,000, filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Why Was the Case Delayed?
During Thursday’s hearing, the prosecution, represented by Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, and the defense team, led by Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, and Dr. Monday Ubani, confirmed their readiness to proceed.
However, Justice Alexander Owoeye refused to take Onyedikachukwu’s plea, stating that the case could not proceed until an administrative issue was resolved.
Defense Pushes Back
Onyedikachukwu’s lawyers argued that the matter was contractual rather than criminal, suggesting that it should be settled outside criminal proceedings.
The court has adjourned the case to May 14, 2025.
