Di Matteo Urges Chelsea to Sign Isak or Osimhen – But Will the Blues Listen?
Former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has called on his old club to act fast and secure a world-class striker this summer, naming Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as ideal targets.
The 2012 Champions League-winning coach emphasized Chelsea’s desperate need for a prolific goal-scorer, stating that a 20-25 goal striker is essential for any serious title challenge. Speaking to Ladbrokes, Di Matteo acknowledged Nicolas Jackson’s potential but insisted that Chelsea must invest in a proven finisher.
The Case for Isak or Osimhen
Both Isak and Osimhen fit the bill as elite-level forwards who could transform Chelsea’s attacking threat. Isak has been outstanding for Newcastle this season, racking up 23 goals and five assists in 33 appearances, proving he can deliver in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Osimhen, a long-term Chelsea target, continues to shine in Serie A, with 26 goals and five assists in 31 games for Napoli.
Di Matteo’s reasoning is hard to dispute. Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal have been a glaring issue, and while Jackson shows promise, the club cannot afford to rely solely on a developing talent. The addition of an elite striker would not only increase the team’s goal tally but also provide tactical flexibility, allowing for a two-striker system when necessary.
Will Chelsea Make the Right Move?
Despite the clear need for a goal machine, the big question remains—will Chelsea’s hierarchy make the right call? The club’s recent transfer dealings have seen them invest heavily in young talents, but their reluctance to sign an established striker has been costly. If Chelsea truly wants to compete for the Premier League title, securing Isak or Osimhen should be a priority.
While Arsenal is reportedly keen on Isak and Osimhen remains a target for several European giants, Chelsea must move decisively. If they hesitate, history might repeat itself—another season of missed chances and an uphill battle for a top-four finish.
The message from Di Matteo is clear: Chelsea needs a top striker. The ball is now in the club’s court. Will they finally listen?
